The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsor National City honored Brittany Seale of South Technical High School as the March 2008 Student of the Month by presenting her with a Chamber plaque and a $50 U.S. Savings Bond.  A junior in the Graphic Communications Program, she maintains a 3.0 GPA and a near perfect attendance record.  She is active in the SkillsUSA organization, constantly volunteers for a variety of activities and is a recent recipient of the SkillsUSA Leadership Award.  Brittany led South Tech's Opening and Closing Ceremonies Team to a bronze medal in the East District Competition; in April they will move on to the state competition.  She was recently selected to represent South Tech as a member of the East District SkillsUSA Officer Team and is now a candidate for the Missouri State Officer Team.  Brittany has been selected the Graphic Communications “Tops at Tech” student for the 2007-2008 school year.  This award is presented to the top student in each program who embodies the qualities most important for success in the field.  Her instructor, Mr. Grad, describes her as exceptionally talented and always eager to learn more.  South Tech shares Brittany with Parkway North High School where she is an honor roll student and a member of both the Concert and Marching Bands.  Previously Brittany and her family lived in Mexico, MO where she was a member of the Future Farmers of America and won the Green Hand Degree.  In Mexico, she was also a member of the
First Christian Church Youth Group and shared her time and talents by holding Bible study classes for small children.  Brittany is an exceptional young lady and has availed herself to the many opportunities that have served to help grow both as a leader in her school as well as her community.  Congratulations Brittany!

The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsor Enterprise Bank & Trust honored Han Jun (John) Sim of Thomas Jefferson School as the February 2008 Student of the Month by presenting him with a Chamber plaque and a Border’s Gift Card for $25.00.  John already knew, when he was in the 8th grade, that he wanted to come to school in America.  All of his family is in Korea and leaving them was a big step for John.  When he was accepted at Thomas Jefferson he took the American name, John.  He makes the long flight home on his own during breaks.  John honors his parents’ wishes to work hard by carrying an “A” academic average and has made honors every semester he has been here.  As a tenth grader he is taking a full complement of classes, including AP Physics (as a sophomore!)  John is a leader in all facets of TJ life. He founded and is the current President of the TJ Photography Club; he is the current Yearbook editor; writes for the school newspaper, the Declaration, and is a member of the TJ Mock Trial team.  He also coordinated the student art show in the gallery.  He plays varsity soccer and JV volleyball.  He was captain of the JV basketball team, and is now on the varsity basketball team.  When he returns to Korea on breaks, he volunteers for the Good Samaritan Social Welfare Juridical Foundation in Grass Blade Village, a facility for disabled children and adults.  He helps bathing them, supervising play, aiding in Sunday services and working in the Korean Christian Student Summer Camp.  Thus far, he has volunteered over 200 hours there.  In January he helped rehabilitate the local ecosystem when Manlipo Beach, near his home, suffered from a major oil spill.  John loves challenges in life and thinks they fulfill his dream of becoming the President of the United Nations.  Congratulations, John!

 



Ojoyi Agbo - January 2008 Student of the Month
The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsor Montgomery Bank honored Ojoyi Agbo of Thomas Jefferson School as our January 2008 Student of the Month by presenting her with a Chamber plaque and a $50 U.S. Savings Bond.
   Ojoyi is a first-generation American.  Her mother fled from Nigeria 20 years ago on the last flight out of the country in the face of a military take-over.  Like her parents, Ojoyi works hard and is ready to take on any project that comes her way.  Her parents sacrificed their families back in Nigeria to raise their three children in this country.  Ojoyi has maintained Honors grades throughout her Thomas Jefferson career.  She actively participates in the Student Activities Committee, Student Admissions Assistants, has written for the newspapers and yearbook and just finished a term as President of Student Council.  Ojoyi plays sports and was nominated to attend the Rotary Leadership Conference in Missouri, and that experience has helped her to assume other leadership positions.  She hopes to attend a Rotary exchange program this summer. She loves to learn about people and how she can help them.  Ojoyi is involved in her community in North St. Louis, has volunteered on Habitat for Humanity projects, the Humane Society and St. Patrick Center.  She has been instrumental in the adopt-a-family project that Thomas Jefferson participates in each year through the St. Patrick Center. 



Amanda Eisele - December 2007 Student of the Month
The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsor U.S. Bank honored Amanda Eisele of South Technical High School as our December 2007 Student of the Month by presenting her with a Chamber plaque and a $50 U.S. Savings Bond.   
Amanda is also a junior at Mehlville High School. At South Tech she has a 4.0 GPA in the Dental Assistant Program. At Mehlville she is an A+ student and is in the German Honor Society, The National Honor Society and the Drama Club, where she works behind the scenes as well as having the lead role in a recent production.This spring Amanda will be inducted into the National Technical Honor Society at South Tech and has been selected the Student of the Month at Mehlville and was presented the “Glory of Missouri” Award for Education.Amanda tutors younger students and assumes the role of a PKOM mentor for high school freshmen.She is a wonderful role model for transitioning students from middle school to high school.Amanda’s Dental Assisting instructor describes her as an extremely hard worker, always interested in improving, listens to other students, is reliable, a leader, and very kind to others.After high school, Amanda plans to attend the University of Missouri – Kansas City to pursue a degree as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Congratulations, Amanda.   
 


Ali Raeber - November 2007 Student of the Month
The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsor Dr. Mary Saale, Saale Chiropractic, honored Ali Raeber of Lindbergh High School as our November 2007 Student of the Month by presenting her with a Chamber plaque and a $50 U.S. Savings Bond.    
Ali is currently a junior at Lindbergh High School with a cumulative GPA of 4.76 and ranks 7th in her class of 460.  This semester she is taking 5 honors classes.  In addition to her scholastic accomplishments, Ali is very active in extracurricular activities including the Dance Team, Science Olympiad, Math Club, French Club, and the National Honor Society.  She serves as an assistant coach several hours a week with the Science Olympiad Team.  Ali's teachers give her glowing remarks.  She is a "diligent student with a passion for learning, a real role model for her peers."  Ali is focused, very polite, positive and hard working.  Ali also does a lot of community service, including many hours of helping for the annual Toy Drive for the children at Patrick Henry School and Shepard School.  Ali's plans include an undergraduate degree in biomedical science, and she is thinking of even going on for a master's degree as well.  Congratulations, Ali.  



Michelle Eckstein - October 2007 Student of the Month
The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsor Heartland Bank honored Michelle Eckstein of South Technical High School as our October 2007 Student of the Month by presenting her with a Chamber plaque and a $50 U.S. Savings Bond.  Michelle is a senior in South Tech's Commercial Art Program and an excellent student artist with exemplary attendance.  She finished first place in the Promotional Bulletin Board category at the state SkillsUSA competition.  She is a very active member of South Tech's Chapter of SkillsUSA and currently serves as chapter president, East District Officer, and as a Missouri State Officer.  She attended the Mid-American Leadership Conference in Nebraska in October and the Washington Leadership Training Institute in Washington D.C this past summer.  Michelle is a terrific ambassador for South Technical High School and enrollment has seen tremendous growth as a result of Michelle's guidance and enthusiasm.  She is an A+ student at Oakville High School and works as an academic tutor for younger students.  She serves as a Tiger Ambassador, a Teenage Health Consultant, and a member of Future Business Leaders of America.  Outside of school, Michelle works as a Wee Care counselor at the YMCA.  Congratulations, Michelle.    



Adam Ball - September 2007 Student of the Month
The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsor Southwest Bank honored Adam Ball of Lindbergh High School as our September 2007 Student of the Month by presenting him with a Chamber plaque and a $50 U.S. Savings Bond.    Adam is a junior with a 4.0 cumulative weighted grade point average, earning him the President's Scholar Award and a Platinum Renaissance Award for his outstanding grades and character traits.  Adam is a member of the National Honor Society and also a "Link Crew Leader", which requires a student to mentor incoming freshmen, acting as a role model and support system for the freshman class.  This position is awarded based on recommendations by the teachers and only the best are chosen.  Adam has played both football and lacrosse while at Lindbergh High School and has earned the starting center position on the varsity football team this year.  Besides his scholastic and athletic accomplishments, Adam has time to be involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; helped distribute information concerning Prop R; serves on the District Safety Committee; and was a member of Junior Achievement.  Adam is also very involved in his church serving on several committees and participated on a mission trip to the inner city of Chicago.  Congratulations, Adam.
